About this place
Set beneath the JR train tracks by Kanda Station's south exit, Bar SANDY MACDONALD is an unpretentious, pub-style bar pairing quality spirits with satisfying food. The back bar holds an extensive spread ranging from distillery bottlings and independent labels to rare vintages, drawing whisky enthusiasts from Japan and abroad. Pours are also available in half sizes, making it easy to sample widely or ease into whisky for the first time.
The food menu is another distinctive highlight. Standing out among the offerings is the haggis sandwich, layering traditional haggis with Gruyère cheese and onion marmalade, served with coleslaw for a distinctively Scottish touch. The kitchen also turns out substantial bites like a Cuban sandwich with roast pork and cheddar, as well as a daily curry that can be adjusted for heat and ordered with either bread or rice.
Beyond whisky, choices include custom cocktails, alcohol-removed wines, and non-alcoholic mojitos made with organic mint from Hiroshima Prefecture. Centered around a long counter, the space holds an easygoing mood suited to solo guests, who can relax into the evening over warm conversation with the bartender.
